When we hear the word “coloratura” we invariably think of the vocal pyrotechnics given to high operatic sopranos. Indeed, it seems it’s always the higher voices that get all the flash and fancy. But the tuba isn’t just for holding the bass line. Coloratura is a short dramatic and sparkling showpiece for solo tuba full of runs, trills, and arpeggios, proving that the tuba can do all that and more.
Coloratura is dedicated to tubist Peder MacLellan with thanks for his help and advice. It was made possible with support from the Canada Council for the Arts.
